Kill Team: June 2023 Tournament Stats

Reviewing the global tournament stats for Kill Team in June 2023!

Welcome to the June Stats Show for Warhammer 40,000 Kill Team where I cover all of the global tournament data for Kill Team! Let’s dive into the stats and see how the game has evolved over the last month! Feel the impact of the Ashes of Faith kill teams!

I’ve also done this as a more in-depth YouTube video which you can watch here:

June 2023 Stats

Once again the standard caveats apply for the stats. All collated from BCP (Best Coast Pairings) and events that their TOs have submitted to us. If you don’t use BCP, just contact us with the details and we can add them in! Big thanks, as always, goes to Hotsauceteddy who’s collated all the data and who this wouldn’t be possible without! Remember, if you share the stats and images, just remember to credit him and me as it helps us both out.

June Winrates

Back with the June winrates and look who return to greet us: Void-Dancer Troupe and Gellerpox infected! Instead of repeating myself every month, I’ll just be posting this image everytime these pair of kill teams continue to over-perform:

Anyway, despite the low usage of Elucidan Starstriders, they did exceedingly well. Now their low usage does make this information suspect but it is from multiple events and it does bring into question buffing a kill team that did so well this month as well as the last 2 months. Chaos Cults and Inquisition both come in swinging high at 69% and 60% winrates with good usage too. Fellgor continue over-performing as well at 65%, seeing no real impact from the release of the Ashes of Faith kill teams.

Outside of these over-performing kill teams (with 5 of them being at 60% or higher), once again the majority of the bespoke teams are mostly fine, with a larger majority now sitting in the healthy range of 45% to 55%. This is pretty good.

Just below at 41% we have Farstalker Kinband and Hierotek Circle, both being teams that were doing very well up until June. It’s sad to see such strong kill teams doing so badly now but not really a surprise considering what’s at the top of the meta right now. at 35% we have Exaction Squad and Hearthkyn Salvagers (pre-buff) with Kasrkin crashing down to 34% despite becoming a very popular kill team and also doing very well in the last 2 months before June. At the bottom we have Pathfinders and my personal headcannon is that Pathfinder players are playing the long game, hoping they’ll get Phobos treatment. Keep fighting for the greater good.

For GT+ results, yeah it looks worse. Gellerpox seem to favour the format way more with Cults and Fellgor doing ever so slightly worse. Inquisition improve too. Big props go to Warp Coven though, so happy to see them up top in GT+. Great turnout for the team especially pre-buff.

For the 45% to 55% teams, it mirrors the overall results with Legionary oddly repeating their May record of doing slightly worse in GT+ events. Hunter Clade also drop down to 40% with Kroot and Wyrmblade dropping below them. Pathfinders improve a bit to 38% with Kasrkin too but Corsairs CRASH down to 34%. Yikes. Then Exaction drop to 30% and Votann down to 24%. At least the latter 2 teams got some slight buffs for the future.

June Game Data

So here’s all those lovely percentages and bars broken down into raw numbers. Yeah, Starstriders have a tiny number of games but it is funny to see how well they performed. Cults and Fellgor tie each other out at 135 games a piece which is above the average for new kill teams. Even Inquistion have a respectable 83 games. Troupe rise up to 151 games while Gellerpox hit the same average. Kasrkin have risen to 103 games, which is a month-by-month rise but I’m not sure how long that will last now. Blooded feel a bit hard-done by their 40 games, being less popular than Exaction Squad and Heathkyn Salvagers but still doing remarkably better than both.

We still are missing podium data but unless we get improved access to BCP data, I don’t think that will come back sadly.

June Global Tournaments

For June global tournaments, this month sees a slight improvement over May, nearly matching April. We also have more countries joing the global map which is the best take from all of this.

June Winrate Chart

The winrate graph is back to help visually show off those numbers and bars better! I like how warped it looks for June. My personal take is that Legionary and Kommando players are fighting amongst themselves to see who is the 2nd most popular faction considering Kommandos overtook Legionary last month. Come on Kommando players, I believe in you.

Faction Match-up Data

Based on prior feedback I’ve included match-up data for the top 3 factions in the game currently. I have access to all the match-up data but it’s too much to cover quickly in monthly reviews so this is a fair compromise.

For Fellgor Ravager the only teams consitently beaten them are: themselves, Ork Kommandos and Chaos Cult. For Chaos Cult it is only Gellerpox. Inquisitorial Agent only lose consistnetly to Elucidian Starstriders, Exaction Squad and Wyrmblade. Now this doesn’t mean Inquisition is the top team, they are just averaging 50% winrates into Cults and Fellgor but those 2 teams have insane matchups vs most of the meta.

It’s interesting to see all this data from global events, especially as Fellgor data is from 2 months of tournament games whereas the latter 2 are just from June. Either way, hope people find it useful.

June 2023 Tournament Stats Overview

Well…what a horrible meta we have right now. 5 teams with a greater than 60% winrate that are taking tons of tournament wins and podiums with several good teams now being forced into the under-performing status. Normally I’d say I’d be looking forwards to what the next month will bring but along with a disappointing June balance dataslate, I would be surprised if things didn’t get worse. Very easily we are in a worse meta than when Pathfinders or Custodes were dominating the scene and it’s a sad thing to see. Kill Team is still fun to play but I expect the stats to just show a rolling picture of Fellgor, Cults and Inquisition continuing to shape the meta until the next balance dataslate in September.

Regardless, thanks goes to Hotsauceteddy again who makes all this possible. Without Hotsauceteddy, we’d be nowhere, as well as thanks to everyone’s feedback which has allowed us to shape and improve the stats.

Remember to also check out my Discord as well as my Patreon too if you want to give me some more support!

So until next time, no matter what the stats say, remember you can always win as long as you can roll a crit!

  1. It makes it worse that two of the best teams are uninteresting and oppressive to play against. Despite fielding a team of 10 unique operatives, except for the shaman, each Fellgor ends up just doing something slightly different in melee. And they have one gear – recklessly aggressive – since there’s almost no penalty since frenzy can frequently allow a trade if they’ve pushed hard.

For most teams, there’s no counterplay to Chaos Cults. Pushing for points early gives fodder for them power up their devotees unless you have solid melee, and if you try to play it reserved they have too much health to chew through to get a meaningful push late.
