Reviewing the global tournament stats for Kill Team in July 2023!
Welcome to the July Stats Show for Warhammer 40,000 Kill Team where I cover all of the global tournament data for Kill Team! Let’s dive into the stats and see how the game has evolved over the last month!
I’ve also done this as a more in-depth YouTube video which you can watch here:
July 2023 Stats
Once again the standard caveats apply for the stats. All collated from BCP (Best Coast Pairings) and events that their TOs have submitted to us. If you don’t use BCP, just contact us with the details and we can add them in! Big thanks, as always, goes to Hotsauceteddy who’s collated all the data and who this wouldn’t be possible without! Remember, if you share the stats and images, just remember to credit him and me as it helps us both out.
July Winrates

Cults top out on overall, which is a surprise to no one really. Although, they are down from 69% (nice) in June while also with an improved pick rate. Blooded land in at 61% but Kommandos have a huge meta representation with 60%. Gellerpox remain static in usage but with 59%. Warp Coven, Hand of the Archon do well while so do Wyrmblade although with a low usage rate.
Inquisition drop from 60% to 55% while Kasrkin jump up to 54%. Fellgor drop down to 49% but the big standouts for the healthy range are Exaction Squad and Pathfinders who who both get 47%, their best results in months!
For underperforming teams we have Breachers, Hierotek, Kroot and Hunter Clade. It speaks volumes about how bad the current meta is that the worst performing teams for July are all great A to B tier teams.
For GT+ results, Pathfinders take the top spot but with a very low usage rate. Chaos Cults actually do better in long-form events with a 65% winrate. Warp Coven continue to do well somehow while Kommandos remain mostly unchanged. The biggest take from GT+ events is how Intercession and Legionary both drop to borderline levels of winning while Fellgor drop down to 44% and the other under-performing teams are all usually strong and well ranking teams.
July Game Data

For July game data, Fellgor and Cults both get more games than last month while Inquisition remain static. Kommandos having an increasing number of games that could take over from Intercession in a few months at this rate. Overall, we are looking for factions that have 80 games or more as the field widens in terms of factions while players increase but not by a similar number. Still no placement data yet sadly but you can see how despite Wyrmblade’s impressive winrate this month, they only had 33 games.
July Match-Up Matrix

Since last month’s match-up data, Hotsauceteddy was able to load up this which shows a more brief look at faction vs faction data. As it’s only from July, singular month stats will look a bit weird. I’ll be doing 3 monthly comparisons when I do my quaterly data reviews but currently it gives a good idea of how factions are performing against each other at events.
July Global Tournaments

For global data, we sadly have a decrease in players and events for July. While this mirrors July 2022, it has a drop in both factors while July 2022 had an increase in players. This could be due to summer holidays but I feel it’s more related to people just being dissatisfied with the current meta and refusing to play, as that’s what a lot of players from around the world have been telling me. Hopefully I’m wrong but we’ll see how this develops for August.
July Winrate Graph

We once again have the July winrate graph. Remember green is good, orange means you need a buff or a nerf, whereas above or below is DANGER WILL ROBINSON territory. We have a pretty messed up graph this month, Chaos Cults reigning down on us all while Kommandos grow ever closer to taking over the popularity crown from Intercession. Down below at the bottom we have Hunter Clade and Breachers which just makes this month bizarre for stats.
July 2023 Stats Overview

Overall, July has been a pretty bad month from a stats perspective. Based on my scouring of BCP events and global player feedback, it very much looks like we have a community ban in-effect for Cults, Fellgor and Inq. Lots of players are refusing to use any or all of those teams but they’re still doing pretty well. If we didn’t have people refusing to use them, the stats would likely be even worse.
Another worrying trend is seeing lots of events using unsafe dropzones and terrain maps that encourage turning point 1 alpha strikes. I’ve now seen several events from large to small do this and that’s a horrible way to try and balance the game vs Cults and other CC teams. Turning Kill Team into Warhammer 40,000 and shooting people off the board is not a healthy way to play and stops people coming to events.
All this just leads to a worrying look at what comes next for balance, as without Cults, Fellgor and Inquisitons (probably Kommandos too?) being hit, this meta will continue being confusingly horrible.
Regardless, thanks goes to Hotsauceteddy again who makes all this possible. Without Hotsauceteddy, we’d be nowhere, as well as thanks to everyone’s feedback which has allowed us to shape and improve the stats.
Remember to also check out my Discord as well as my Patreon too if you want to give me some more support!
So until next time, no matter what the stats say, remember you can always win as long as you can roll a crit!
