The Skaven return to Warhammer Underworlds Nethermaze!
Today I’m reviewing Skittershank’s Clawpack for Warhammer Underworlds Nethermaze season 6. First thing, thanks to Games Workshop for providing this to review for free. As always I aim to be honest, impartial and constructively critical. I’ve also done this as a more in-depth YouTube video which you can check out here:
Narrative

Skittershank’s Clawpack are Skaven Eshin Assassins that cruelly stalk and hunt the Nethermaze for pray and all its secrets.
Miniatures

The warband are a 5 fighter warband which is an average size for teams. You have 3 main assassins and 2 minions. The team are a great update for the Eshin aesthetic and come in Skaven brown plastic. The leader is okay but looks more like a leader in the artwork. My favourite is probably the net rat, so kewl.
Fighter Cards

Slynk is your leader who has a kinda tough inspire condition but Marked for Death helps with that. Move 5 and 2 dodge along with a great melee attack, even if it is range 1.
Inspired just goes to 4 dice, which is nice but means inspiring isn’t necessary.

Kreep is amazing. 1 damage but 8 hex threat range and barbs are a nice way to pin down fighters. Also has a much easier inspire condition.
Inspiring just grants grievous which isn’t great but you don’t need to inspire.

Snyp has an alright attack action but his smoke bombs are his real strength. Auto-staggering people is great.
Inspiring just gives him cleave and grievous which is alright.

Krowch’t is your first minion with a pretty average but decent 2 damage attack.
Inspiring is much better for that 2 dodge and 2 smash attack.

Skulch is your other minion with a threat range of 8. 1 damage but great.
Inspiring is a must and easy for him to get a much better attack and 2 dodge.
Overall the warband is pretty neat and super fast aggro. Inspiring everyone outside of your leader is very easy and you have huge threat range. Low damage but easily solved with upgrades and gambits. Lots of 2 defence, great overall.
Faction Cards
I’ll go over faction cards from okay to top picks.
Objectives

Armed to the Fang is alright but not great.
Too much work for only 3 glory.
Daggers in the Dark isn’t bad but just too much setup for my liking.

Dazed and Confused isn’t bad but only really works vs 4/3 fighter warbands.
Impressive Students is too much work for 2 glory. You can let a single minion score it but still.
Should have been 2 glory.

Rattled isn’t great as generally you want staggered warriors dead.
Unsurprising Fate is okay.
Assassinate as a faction card, not great.
Objectives Top Picks

You have a lot of grevious and rolling crits is great.
Yes it is tough but good for Rivals format, especially as it is 2 glory.
Amazing surge for 2 glory. Doesn’t take much setup either.
Gambits

Poisoned Traps is okay but needs you going first to get the most out of it.
Skittering Blur is pretty good but amazing when you only have assassins left.

Spitting Cobra Technique always gives stagger but does 1 damage on a crit. Not bad but would have preferred it coming from any fighter.
Not bad if you want to stagger someone adjacent.
Gambits Top Picks

Closing for the Kill is a great push card.
Misplaced Optimism is amazing for pushing leaders around for setting up kills.
Probing attack is a great push card even if for only your minions.

Redirected attack is amazing for saving your main assassins.
Way of the Iron Paw is more great damage negation.
Way of the Slinking Rat is a nice twist on Illusory Fighter, love it.
Upgrades

Eshin Throwing Stars are alright.
Gas Mask is just bad due to being locked to 1 fighter.

Both of these are decent but being locked to specific 3 wound fighters is not my jam.
Upgrades Top Picks

Death Master is locked to your leader but makes you more accurate AND faster.
Merciless is a conditional great strength but I’ll take that extra damage.
Prehensile Tail is great to get 2 additional re-rolls and almost re-rolling all attack dice.

Restricted to assassins but great teleportation.
Acrobatics is back and in faction form. Auto-include.
Nice attack action that gives ensnare but fly more importantly.
Warband Overview

Skittershank’s Clawpack are a great aggro team. Fast, easy inspire, lots of defence, great faction cards, lots of re-rolls. They even finally make stagger decent. Also are an amazing Eshin update, truly amazing models. Great for new and experienced players alike. Lots of sneaky Skaven tricks too.
Pros:
- Beautiful warband
- Easy to play but still have lots of depth
- Lots of good faction cards
- Utilise stagger well
- Got a little tiny rat bro
Cons:
- You don’t like rats/Skaven

Closing Crit
Overall this a great warband that is sorely tempting me back due to Skritch flashbacks. They’re just a really fun warband to play. Great work.
So even if you’re being stalked by sneaky Skaven rats in the Underworlds, all is not lost as long as you can roll a crit!
