Kill Team: March 2023 Tournament Stats

Reviewing the global tournament stats for Kill Team in March 2023!

Welcome to the March Stats Show for Warhammer 40,000 Kill Team where I cover all of the global tournament data for Kill Team! Let’s dive into the stats and see how the game has evolved over the last month!

I’ve also done this as a more in-depth YouTube video which you can watch here:

March 2023 Stats

Once again the standard caveats apply for the stats. All collated from BCP (Best Coast Pairings) and events that their TOs have submitted to us. If you don’t use BCP, just contact us with the details and we can add them in! Big thanks, as always, goes to Hotsauceteddy who’s collated all the data and who this wouldn’t be possible without! Remember, if you share the stats and images, just remember to credit him and me as it helps us both out.

March Winrates

March continues the stable trend that has established for the top 4 teams: Elucidian Starstriders, Gellerpox Infected, Imperial Navy Breachers and Void-Dancer Troupe as they all have now consistently placed above 55% for winrates with the first two factions consistently placing above 60% for both normal and GT+ results, which is wild.

Pathfinders continue their oddly shocking drop in success with another month of a 35% winrate. It’s honestly quite confusing why they’re doing so poorly currently. They’re joined by Hierotek Circle, Warp Coven and Kasrkin. Kroot have jumped up while the big success story are Phobos Strike team, basically striking 50% in both formats. Will we see another Hunter Clade and Elucidian Starstrider situation if the next dataslate does buff them as well all expect?

As for the Soulshackle teams, both debut fairly equally at around 50%, although Hand of the Archon have far more players and games. Still, it’s good to see that I was right about both factions basically being at that level. Hopefully the trend continues and stays stable as time goes on.

March Game Data

For game data in March, BCP kinda messed up so our placement data tracking isn’t working currently (but should be fixed eventually). Overall we’ve had more games again in March and the majority of bespoke factions are hitting 100 games a month. Interestingly, Starstriders are at 174 games while Breachers go down a bit to 170 from Februrary. Intercession and Legionary get closer in terms of games played whereas the bottom 4 bespoke factions share a very low number of games in comparison.

Compendium teams only account for 10% of the meta with Death Guard pulling their consistent numbers and Talons being the next most popular.

March Popularity Over Time

As the chart becomes more of a mess due to the increasing bespoke factions, we can clearly see factions grouping themselves into the allocated winrate ranges, as well as helping to show how erratic some factions can be each month. Still, eventually Intercession Squad will dominate the chart, and the game, with their THICCness.

March Global Tournaments

March was another record-breaking month for Kill Team! Not only did we see more events for both normal and GT+ but we had more players than ever with new countries hosting events! It’s great to see the continual growth of the game and we aren’t even at the summer peak!

March Winrate Chart

Accounting only for bespoke teams, the meta has basically solidified (green good, orange not good, white is baaad). Generally, most teams are fairly balanced with each other. We just have consistently over-performing and under-performing Kill Teams as I’ve already established. Now there’s a trend, it’s time to see what the next balance dataslate does to shake-up this fairly static meta.

March 2023 Stats Overview

Overall March has been kinda…static for Kill Team. We can see that, as a whole, the meta is pretty fine and static with most factions close to each other in terms of performance. However, we now have chronic over and under-performers which isn’t good. It’s not terrible but it is worrying to see 2 teams consistently reach above 60% winrate and podium performance with good popularity too for basically 3 months (setting a new game record for a faction with Elucidian Starstriders). As said earlier, we’re basically waiting for the next balance dataslate to shake things up.

Phobos may be a problem in the future if I was somehow right about Phobos players sandbagging their own faction to net a multitude of buffs before playing seriously but that can’t be right….right? Real concern comes in the form of Pathfinders. While I ain’t saying they need buffs, it is worrying to see them do so badly so suddenly and we have no way to actually show why. Soulshackle factions jump into the scene and look healthy, which is a nice change of pace from the last 2 boxes of teams and the game continues to grow even more. So very good overall!

But thanks goes to Hotsauceteddy again who makes all this possible. Without Hotsauceteddy, we’d be nowhere, as well as thanks to everyone’s feedback which has allowed us to shape and improve the stats.

Remember to also check out my Discord as well as my Patreon too if you want to give me some more support!

So until next time, no matter what the stats say, remember you can always win as long as you can roll a crit!
