Kill Team: April 2023 Tournament Stats

Reviewing the global tournament stats for Kill Team in April 2023!

Welcome to the April Stats Show for Warhammer 40,000 Kill Team where I cover all of the global tournament data for Kill Team! Let’s dive into the stats and see how the game has evolved over the last month!

I’ve also done this as a more in-depth YouTube video which you can watch here:

April 2023 Stats

Once again the standard caveats apply for the stats. All collated from BCP (Best Coast Pairings) and events that their TOs have submitted to us. If you don’t use BCP, just contact us with the details and we can add them in! Big thanks, as always, goes to Hotsauceteddy who’s collated all the data and who this wouldn’t be possible without! Remember, if you share the stats and images, just remember to credit him and me as it helps us both out.

April Winrates

Starting with the top for all events, Gellerpox and Void-Dancer Troupe continue another month of greater than 60% winrates, after the nerf for Gellerpox recently too. At least these 2 teams continue to hit their consistent performance for something like at least 4 months in a row of >60% winrates which is very fine. Joining these two teams are the Veteran Guardsmen with a huge 5.3% representation rate at 58%. Honestly, I’m kinda shocked it took them so long to start doing well again but this is only a single month’s result so we’ll need to see if they can keep up that performance in May.

Back in the healthy range, Phobos jump up with a 55% winrate and boosted 4.8% representation rate which is great to see. There was a worry they could be dominating but it’s good to see Phobos just doing really well post buffs. Hierotek hit 49% with a 6% usage rate which is a surprise in itself as most people thought that they would be the boogey man kill team of the game, myself included. Good to see Necrons just plain doing well. Kommandos surge back onto the scene becoming the 2nd most popular kill team in the game for April and with a 50% winrate, turns out they really did only need an extra Bomb Squig! Hand of the Archon drop down quite a bit compared to March with now having a 47% winrate but still with a great usage rate. Startriders also rock in at 53%, shrugging off the calls that they’re horrible now. Kasrkin also hit 53% too!

For our loses, Exaction Squad hold at 41%, under-powered but not utterly horrible as most people would have you fear. Breachers have their worst month ever at 41% despite winning Warhammer Fest and have 4 players in the top 10. Just…really confusing. Pathfinders continue to do badly which is worrying for if they somehow get buffs as a result and Novitiates have their worst month ever at 36%. Like Veteran Guardsmen, we will have to see if they continue this trend for May.

For GT+ results, Gellerpox and Veteran Guardsmen do even better while Void-Dancer Troupe do slightly worse. Notably Starstriders continue to do well despite their heavy nerfs, clearly favouring longer and larger events. While a lot of factions swing around, Exaction Squad and Hand of the Archon do a lot worse, dropping down to 35% and 36% respectively. Breachers drop down to 31%! A very strange turn of events.

April Game Data

Sadly, due to recent BCP app updates, we’re still missing placement data for events and will hopefully have it back eventually. Still, here is all the data broken down into number-form.

April Global Tournaments

April has been another great month for events. It sets another record-breaking time with April having the most regular and GT+ events in Kill Team’s history so far! Player numbers a down slightly from March but still rise higher than what we had last year. Compared to April 2022, we’ve almost got double the number of tournaments and players!

April Winrate Chart

Back with bespoke only in graph form! Green is good, orange is bad, above or below the ranges sets precedence for needed changes. Gellerpox and Quins continue their nice rest in the 60% zone while Vet Guard are the only team in the 56% to 60% range. At the bottom of 40% we, oddly, have Breachers, while Exaction drop a bit although still being higher than the consistently under-performing Pathfinders and a sudden drop for Novitiates.

April 2023 Stats Overview

Overall I feel April has been a great month for Kill Team. Yeah, Void-Dancer Troupe and Gellerpox continue to sit at above 60% but we only have one other over-performing Kill Team which is just Veteran Guardsmen. Even under-performing teams are basically just Exaction Squad, Pathfinders and then shockingly Novitiates and Breachers. Sadly without placement data it’s hard to judge the data on winrates and player usage alone but something is better than nothing!

What’s really good to see is the game continues to grow AND the last set of buffs and nerfs seem to have been perfect! So far we now have a lot of strong teams you need to watch out for but not at the point where they’re dominating the game. Hierotek, Phobos and Kasrkin are all really solid now while Starstriders still perform great. This is all a really good sign.

Now we have May to look forward to and see if teams continue their trends as well as how the Gallowfall teams affect the meta. Maybe we really will be in a space goat meta…

But thanks goes to Hotsauceteddy again who makes all this possible. Without Hotsauceteddy, we’d be nowhere, as well as thanks to everyone’s feedback which has allowed us to shape and improve the stats.

Remember to also check out my Discord as well as my Patreon too if you want to give me some more support!

So until next time, no matter what the stats say, remember you can always win as long as you can roll a crit!
