Kill Team: August 2022 Tournament Stats

Reviewing the global tournament stats for Kill Team in August 2022!

Welcome to the August Stats Show for Warhammer 40,000 Kill Team where I cover all of the global tournament data for Kill Team! Let’s dive into the stats and see how the game has evolved over summer!

I’ve also done this as a more in-depth YouTube video which you can watch here:

August 2022 Stats

Once again the standard caveats apply for the stats. All collated from BCP (Best Coast Pairings) and events that their TOs have submitted to us. Big thanks, as always, goes to Hotsauceteddy who’s collated all the data and who this wouldn’t be possible without!

Global Data

We’ve had another good month of games with even more regions being recorded for their Kill Team tournaments! Everyone is stepping up the number of tournaments they’re doing which is great to see. Novitiates rock it out as the top dog for August with a near 60% winrate with a good representation rate of 7%. Wyrmblade are just behind them, shockingly, although with nearly 50% less games so it kinda throws their wins into question as a comparison. Vet Guard continue being solid and having one of the higher, and consistent, monthly tournament wins proving they’re still a great choice for those players looking to win events. Even the fearsome Pathfinders have lost a bit of popularity from last month but have a great 55% winrate. Harlequins have their worst month ever but a 50% winrate is still great, just no longer above 55%.

Then there’s poor Phobos Strike team. Space Marines (Intercession stand-ins due to BCP delays) have shot above them while Phobos have bled players and have done worse than last month. 36% then 35% winrates WITH a drop in players is not the normal trend when a faction loses players, really sad to see. Even Warp Coven have improved slightly going from a 40% winrate last month to 43%.

Winrates and Popularity

Here’s the monthly comparison chart. September is there but more as a spoiler and only 2 weeks complete so there’s still some time to go. Interesting Pathfinder wins for September currently though, hmm…

Anyway! This clearer breakdown shows how the winrates are doing month-by-month. As mentioned earlier Harlequins are having their worst month but it’s still a great result for them. The monthly event win table really helps make understanding the winrates more. Vet Guard continue their solid run of tournament wins but Novitiates spike it for August as the August champions in both winrate AND tournament wins. Noviates are really interesting, every quarter they’ll spike to a 60% winrate then drop the next month. Maybe they’ve dodge the balance baton for too long? Either way nothing is too standout sans for them and poor Phobos Strike Team.

Winrate Ranges

Here’s the winrate percentage ranges. Remember, 45% to 55% winrate is good, 56% to 60% is a sign that a balance tone down may be needed, >60% is very bad as the faction is performing too well, 44% to 40% means the faction likely needs a minor buff or two whereas <40% means ya’ll need some help.

Legionary are rocking a 50% winrate with 250 players, really impressive. Still the most popular faction. Blooded and Wyrmblade both have 60% winrates but only with around 40 games each. Phobos at 35% with 100 players is…not good but I think I’ve covered that enough. Overall we have a very health meta with only Novitiates being the only concern for a faction that may be too strong as their near 60% winrate is with about 120 players.

Sure compendium teams aren’t really doing that well (yes, Grey Knights have 72.2% winrate but that’s from 18 games) but all the bespoke teams seem to be pretty balanced which is great to see.

August 2022 Stats Overview

Overall, we have another fairly health meta, although we have more spikes and dips than we did in July. Noviates are the winner of August while Phobos etc etc blah blah you get the message. We should have our next Balance Dataslate near the end of September so it will be interesting to see what changes it brings, especially if the August data is any influence. I think it’s clear everyone would like to see some buffs for Warp Coven (buff dem Rubrics pls) and Phobos Strike Team (mission actions are all -1AP? I dunno), so let me know what you’d like to see!

Still, it’s worth repeating how balanced everything looks. It’s a really great job from Games Workshop that all the bespoke teams are pretty much balanced with each other. Next month will be interesting as we have 5 new teams: Intercession (finally added), Imperial Navy Breachers, Farstalker Kinband, Elucidian Starstriders and Gellerpox Infected. Plus we have Into the Dark as well!

Mine and Teddy’s only requests for tournaments and their TO’s is to please label their events as Into the Dark or normal Kill Team, just so we can organise the stats better. We’d prefer no mixing of systems too but that is inevitable but if events are named as such, we can chart a more accurate picture of the stats. Who knows, their may even be no difference at all between Into the Dark and normal games of Kill Team!

Before I go, feel free to check out my Discord as well as my Patreon if you want to give me some more support!

So until next time, thanks goes to the man himself: Hotsauceteddy who made this all possible. Plus, remember that no matter what the stats say, you can always roll a crit!

  1. Thanks a lot for these data’s.

It’s annoying for Phobos as they really have a lot of interaction and synergies, but they’re missing both combat and range weapon with stronger damages (3/4 really). They don’t even have a dedicated gunner… and compared to Legionaries for example, the Phobos specific abilities are not so strong neither.

I’d appreciate for sure a buff for Warpcoven ! Sorcerers and Rubrics are good, but Tzaangors look a bit weak compared to other teams combat fighters.

I know Corsairs don’t especially need a buff, but once again, being able to have both gunner and heavy gunner would really make a difference.

You didn’t mention Hunter Clade in the article, any comment about them?

Reaaly looking forward to see how the new teams will perform. Elucidian Starstriders will rock, I’m sure !

    Thanks again !
