Reviewing the new savage Chaos warband for Warhammer Underworlds Gnarlwood!
Welcome to my Warband Review of the Gnarlspirit Pack for Warahammer Underworlds Gnarlwood! Can the bestial Chaos warriors use the savage beast spirits to reign supreme? Read on as I go through their fighter cards and all their faction cards! Before we go further, thanks goes to Games Workshop for giving this to review for free. As always, I aim to be honest, impartial and constructively critical.
If you want, I’ve done a more in-depth YouTube review which you can watch here:
Miniatures

The Gnarlspirit Pack are a 4 fighter warband, which is about the middle size for a team. They come in bone-coloured plastic and go together well enough, although they are quite fragile in places. My favourite fighter Gorl Spinehammer with his big hammer. The rest of the miniatures I’m not a fan of really. They’re just a slightly more savage Godsworn Hunt.
Thanks also goes to Aman from Path to Glory who got all the card images for me. He’s an amazing guy who does great Warhammer Underworlds content. You should check him out on his website and YouTube now!
Fighter Cards

Sarrakkar (try saying that 3 times fast) Blackwing is your leader who is a level 2 wizard. 4 wounds with 4 move and 2 dodge is okay. Overcome is alright but the cannot be inspired. The inspire condition is warband wide but remember you only inspire at given inspire steps which are basically before and after you activate, not during.
Sarrakkar Inspired goes to 3 smash on his staff. Honestly, he gets more from not being inspired while with spirit counters.

Gorl Spinehammer has a Spinehammer which is very nice. He’s also 4 wounds and a Brawler. What makes him stand out is the Struggle rule which the whole team has. This gives or remove a spirit counter. When Overcome he is Beast with +1 defence, solid.
Inspired, his hammer goes to Knockback 2 with Stagger. Beast Breaker lets beasts within 2 hold objectives and can re-roll 1 defence dice. I think you want him inspired, just for how he buffs the whole team when nearby.

Crimson Kheira is also a Brawler. She is move 4 but 3 wounds. She has 2 attack profiles but Berserk Assault has Grievous and Scything on a crit which makes her excellent at blending hordes. While Overcome she gets +1 move which makes her even faster.
Inspired her axes get Cleave and Grievous. It’s alright but generally you want her Overcome. Depends on the opponent but it’s nice how she operates.

Lupan (the third) Longcut is a Hunter. Longcut does +1 damage on the charge while the Silent Knife is good too. When Overcome he becomes a very fast and real threat.
Inspiring makes him slightly more damaging, accurate and better at defence which is probably why you should inspire him instead of depending on Overcome.

Gnarlspirit Overview

The Gnarlspirit Pack are a great aggro warband. They really own the 3 style fighter card of being un-inspired, overcome and inspired. They use some really great design space and an improved set of Oath cards from the Godsworn Hunt. Their fast but require a good balance between inspiring and being overcome. Really like these fighters. Very unique, powerful yet balanced.
Pros:
- Solid 4 fighter warband which are good for beginners but enough depth to be really good for veteran players
- 3 style fighter cards offer lots of player choice and decision
- Fast, thematic and strong
Cons:
- Not the most durable team
- Visually a bit bland, a slightly more bestial Godsworn Hunt
