Kill Team: December 2022 Tournament Stats

Reviewing the global tournament stats for Kill Team in November 2022!

Welcome to the December Stats Show for Warhammer 40,000 Kill Team where I cover all of the global tournament data for Kill Team! Let’s dive into the stats and see how the game has evolved over the last month! This data is the last hurrah of the Q3 meta!

I’ve also done this as a more in-depth YouTube video which you can watch here:

December 2022 Stats

Once again the standard caveats apply for the stats. All collated from BCP (Best Coast Pairings) and events that their TOs have submitted to us. Big thanks, as always, goes to Hotsauceteddy who’s collated all the data and who this wouldn’t be possible without! He’s also got some updates shown above as to what he’s working towards next!

Note we’re also valuing draws as 0.5 wins for winrates as it’s something the AoS guys were doing but will probably make our stats slightly different from Games Workshop’s own.

December Winrates

December is a very…interesting month. Remember this is all before the Q4 balance dataslate changes. Troupe end up dominating the month overall oddly with an impressive 64% winrate. Wyrmblade also continue to do better than expected with another 57% winrate. Everything else is mostly even at 50% such as Kasrkin, shockingly. Even the underperforming teams are doing slightly better this month, although Warp Coven have dropped down again.

When looking at GT+ results, Pathfinders show their true dominance. Oddly Starstriders do too but with a low usage rate. Worryingly, Breachers do crazily good with a 62% winrate, before they basically get buffed. Wyrmblade continue to do well too, maybe they should have taken a hit or two in the last dataslate? Troupe go down a bit but Novitiates and Kasrkin also do better than average. Going towards the bottom end, Kroot drop down whereas Phobos fall and Hierotek keep tumbling down, tumbling down, tumbling down…

December Game Data

Breaking down the bar graphs into numbers, you can see how each faction won, loss, went undefeated as well as total games. We’re now consistently getting over 2,000 games a month for Kill Team which is amazing. Now you can see faction representation in numbers, Kasrkin and Starstriders stats show they are less reliable (Ideally you want around 100 games and above). Intercerssion continue their dominance with over 300 games while Legionary dip a bit more down to 215.

December Winrate vs Popularity

Now we’re back at winrate vs popularity. Remember, 45% to 55% (green) is good, 40% to 44% means a team is under-performing and needs a buff or two, <40% means they need serious buffs, 56% to 60% means a team is over-performing and needs a nerf or two, whereas >60% is danger zone for balance. Still, most teams are close together and we have more teams under-performing than the opposite. You can also clearly see the popularity of Legionary and Intercession compared to the other kill teams currently.

Popularity Over Time

As it’s December we can basically show the trend of popularity and winrates over the year since we started recording stats. What I really like about this is how Hotsauceteddy has shown popularity via the THICCness of the line. The THICCer, the more popular. It’s a really clear indicator. Also no compendium teams because this would become unreadable.

You can see bespoke teams have actually ended up very close to each other with occasional peaks and drops. Intercession remain incredibly THICC and popular while Legionary have had a very consistently even performance that has remained strong. Phobos had a notable drop in popularity and winrate, especially tying into the release of Intercession.

Event Data

Now we have the global data shown in map form. The right side shows the number of events and players we’ve had. Red are GT+ events while green is everything else. We’ve had a slight decrease in players (Which is expected over winter and Christmas), same with events but overall it looks great. Spain leads the way in events with USA catching up to them. It’s just great to see how global Kill Team has become with tournaments and events. We can also see a spike with event and player popularity with September, the month of Into the Dark being released.

December 2022 Stats Overview

Overall, we have a pretty healthy meta, although GT+ results paint a different picture. Void-Dancer Troupe have done well again which doesn’t surprise me, although Wyrmblade continue to prove their strengths even before the new overall game buffs! GT+ highlights potential issues for the future with Breachers as they dodge any hits in the latest balance dataslate but only time will tell. It seems the meta has mostly settled for December but a) we had slightly less events than the 2 prior months and b) the game has basically been completely changed with the new Critical Operations Card Pack and the December balance dataslate.

Still, I’m looking forward to the next quarter. The game feels super balanced (sans Breachers, cough) and we have lots of upcoming big events in Q1 for Kill Team. January is LVO, while February has Kill Team Open and another Warhammer World event. Not to mention events in Spain as well as the rest of the world. The new Tac Ops and missions provide tons of great changes to most teams so it will be interesting to see how the meta evolves.

But thanks goes to Hotsauceteddy again who makes all this possible. I hope you enjoyed basically 12 months of Kill Team stats reviews. It all would have not been possible without Hotsauceteddy as well as everyone’s feedback.

Remember to also check out my Discord as well as my Patreon too if you want to give me some more support!

So until next time, no matter what the stats say, remember you can always win as long as you can roll a crit!
